MIDLAND, Mich. - On a rain-soaked Thursday evening in central Michigan, an early goal and stout defense led the Dragons to a 1-0 win over Northwood with Tiffin defeating the Timberwolves for the second straight game.
Just like the first match up, the Dragons (6-1-3, 5-0-1 G-MAC) struck first early again tonight. 1:29 into the contest, Sam Brittain connected for his second goal of the season with Zach Garcia providing the assist. The one goal would prove to be enough in this one for the Dragons' strong defense.
TU tried to add on late in the first half, but shots by Callum Ellington and Christopher Jones were both saved by Northwood's goalkeeper.
The Dragons held advantages in all offensive categories. Tiffin outshot Northwood 20-13 and held a slim advantage in shots on goal, 9-7. TU also attempted seven corner kicks to Northwood's four.
Nick Cherry, who went the distance in goal and recorded seven saves, made his seventh and final seven of the night with seconds dwindling down inside a crowded box. Garbhan Feeney led the offensive attack with six shots and nearly made it 2-0 in the final minute but his shot attempt just sailed high.
The Dragons return home for their next game on Saturday, October 3 against Lake Erie at 2:30 p.m. at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
