Tiffin University Athletics Team with Washington Elementary for 2026 Walk Day

TIFFIN, Ohio – Tiffin University student-athletes, coaches, staff members, and volunteers joined hundreds of local elementary students on Friday, October 9 for Washington K-1 Elementary School's annual Walk Day, a nationwide initiative that promotes healthy living, community engagement, and safe routes to school.

The walk began at 9 a.m. at Washington Elementary School as participants filled the neighborhood streets, creating an energetic atmosphere centered around wellness, school pride, and community connection.

Hundreds of Tiffin University student-athletes from all collegiate programs as well as club teams took part in the event, walking alongside elementary students while serving as positive role models for the young participants. The annual tradition provides an opportunity for university students to interact with local children, encourage active lifestyles, and strengthen the bond between Tiffin University and the surrounding community.

Walk Day is part of a national movement that encourages students and families to walk or roll to school while highlighting the importance of pedestrian safety and physical activity. What began as a one-day event in 1997 has grown into a celebration observed by thousands of schools across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico each October. The initiative has since evolved into a year-round effort supporting Safe Routes to School programs and helping communities create safer environments for students.

The annual event once again showcased the strong partnership between Tiffin University and Washington Elementary School, as students, educators, and families came together for a morning focused on health, safety, and building meaningful connections.
