D'monyae Davis had a look in the corner for a game-winning trifecta, but the shot was off the mark in what was a wild finish that resulted in the Dragons (4-8, 0-5 G-MAC) losing 70-68 at home Monday night against Cedarville.
The Dragons trailed 70-60 with 2:47 remaining and critical mistakes by the Yellow Jackets allowed Tiffin to make it interesting. A flagrant foul sent Jonah Nesmith to the line where he made both, and Davis hit a three on the ensuing possession to make it 70-68 with 37 seconds left.
The Yellow Jackets turned it over on their next possession to set up the Dragons with an opportunity to tie or win it, but the last-second shot was off the mark.
Tiffin's slow start to the second half proved to be the difference in the game as the Yellow Jackets erupted for a 28-8 run over the first 10 minutes of the half to lead 59-44. The 15-point lead was the biggest of the game for Cedarville.
Tiffin finished a back-and-forth first half on a 5-0 run to take a 36-31 lead into the break.
Davis led the way offensively scoring a career-high 20 points. Michael Lucarotti finished with 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Nesmith had 10 points and KJ Pruitt grabbed six rebounds.
The Dragons lost the rebounding battle 40-29 and finished 16 of 25 at the line (64 percent) and shot just 8 of 25 (32 percent) from the field in the second half.
