Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dragons fade in second half, fall to Ashland 69-55

Ashland outscored the Dragons (4-11, 0-8 G-MAC) 47-28 in the second half to turn a five-point halftime deficit into a 69-55 win Thursday night at the Gillmor Center.

The Dragons couldn't have asked for a better start as Demar Burton and Jonah Nesmith hammered home dunks to give Tiffin a 6-0 lead which forced an Ashland timeout. The Dragons maintained their lead for most of the half until a 5-0 burst by the Eagles gave them their first lead of 18-16 at the 6:07 mark.

Tiffin closed the final 4:10 of the first half on a 7-0 run capped by a Nesmith three-pointer as time expired to give the Dragons a 27-22 lead going into the break.

The second half was an entirely different story. Ashland went on another 5-0 run to make it 27-27 just 1:26 into the half. The mini run turned into a 36-13 run that lasted for over 14 minutes as the Eagles led 58-40 with 6:29 remaining in the game.

The Dragons would not go away quietly, and a tip-in by Ethan Damerum made it a 10-point game with two minutes left. After going just 2 of 11 from the foul line in the first half, the Eagles converted 21 of 25 chances at the line in the second half to close the game.

The difference in the game actually turned out to be the free throw line. Ashland finished 23 of 36 while the Dragons went 9 of 10. The game featured seven ties and nine lead changes. Ashland led for 18:30 and the majority of that time with the lead came in the second half. Meanwhile, the Dragons led for 19 minutes with the majority of that time coming in the second half.

Nesmith and D'monyae Davis led the way offensively scoring 15 and 12, respectively, and Damerum finished with eight points and eight assists.
