The Tiffin University men's basketball team (4-10, 0-7 G-MAC) dropped an 82-70 road contest at Walsh on Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons never led in the game, and despite a strong second half, Tiffin was unable to overcome an 18-point halftime deficit.
Walsh started the game with back-to-back three-pointers and a three-pointer by Jacob Pleiman cut the deficit to one. Despite trailing from the start, Tiffin kept it close and trailed by just one a few times until an 8-0 run by the Cavaliers made it 16-7 with 12:42 left in the first half. Walsh expanded their lead to 20 with 1:27 left in the first half and the Cavaliers led 42-24 at the break.
Tiffin put together a much better second half outscoring the Cavaliers 46-40, but the halftime deficit was too large to overcome.
The Dragons started to slowly chip away at the lead, and a 9-0 run got the deficit under double digits as Walsh led 66-57 with 7:11 left in the game. The Cavaliers scored on their next possession to take an 11-point lead and Walsh maintained their double digit lead the rest of the way.
Both teams finished 50 percent from the field (30 for 60) and both teams also hit six three-pointers. The difference in the game was at the free throw line. Tiffin went 4 for 9 at the charity stripe while Walsh converted 16 of 27 chances. Both teams scored 46 points in the paint.
Michael Lucarotti led the way offensively scoring 20 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Demar Burton finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. D'monyae Davis had eight points and six assists.
