Game Recap: Baseball |

Dragons close regular season with two wins at Lake Erie

Tiffin University baseball (23-27, 14-18 G-MAC), still fighting for a spot in the upcoming G-MAC Tournament, finished the regular season on Sunday and earned a sweep at Lake Erie, winning game one 3-0 and game two 6-3.

Today's two wins gave the Dragons three of four in the series to claim a series victory for the second straight weekend.

Game one was a battle of the pitchers that resulted in TU starter Scotty Adelman having the edge. Adelman (W, 7-5) tossed a complete game throwing 7.0 innings. He recorded three strikeouts, allowed three hits, and walked two.

With two outs in the top of the first and the bases loaded, a defensive error gave the Dragons a 1-0 lead. Tiffin was unable to capitalize anymore though as Adam Deitschel went down swinging to end the inning.

TU added two more in the fifth. With one out, Logan Swonger singled and went to third on a double by Hilario DeLaPaz. Griff Cady then brought both runners home on another double to give the Dragons a two-run cushion.

The game remained 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning and Lake Erie did not go away quietly. A one-out single and two-out hit by pitch brought the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Adelman got the final batter to fly out to seal the deal.

Hatfield and Swonger both went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Dragons once again struck first with one run in the first inning as Logan Swonger drew a bases loaded two-out walk. A fielding error by center fielder Colin Crisenberry led to an unearned run in the second inning to tie the game.

Both teams scored once in the third to make it 2-2 but the Dragons had a golden opportunity to score more than just one. Andrew Fairbrother, Cal Brazier, and Griff Cady all reached to start the inning to load the bases with one out but the only run they got was when Fairbrother scored on a sacrifice fly by Swonger.

Tiffin took the lead for good in the fifth. A one-out error loaded the bases and Hilario DeLaPaz delivered with a two-run double to make it 4-2. A two-out RBI double by the Storm cut the deficit in half in the fifth.

The game remained 4-3 until the ninth when DeLaPaz came through with another clutch hit to give the Dragons some breathing room. This time, DeLaPaz recorded a two-out two-run single to make it 6-3 and that was more than enough as Tiffin pitching kept the Storm off the board for the final four innings.

Mason Brunecz got the win in relief throwing 5.0 innings with four strikeouts. Keegan Phillips pitched the final 2.0 innings to get the save.

Brazier and DeLaPaz both went 3-for-5 at the plate and DeLaPaz had 4 RBI.
