Dragons stay alive with game two comeback at G-MAC tourney

Tiffin University (41-12) bounced back after a tough extra innings loss on day two of the G-MAC Tournament, defeating Cedarville 12-3 in 5 innings after falling 3-1 in 8 innings to Ohio Dominican.

The Dragons scored in every inning against the Yellow Jackets, opening with three runs in the first inning. Reagan Mengerink singled and Tiffin followed with three straight walks as Jessica Miller, Maci Head, and Baylee Mirgon all got free passes for Tiffin's first run. A fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly brought in two more runs as TU led 3-1.

In the second, Tori Abel and Miller singled and then came home on Head's double. With two outs, Tori McPherson singled to drive in another run as TU went ahead 6-1.

In the third, Lydia Kobie reached second on a two-base error and came home on Mengerink's single.

TU blew the game open in the fourth. McPherson, Molly Koesters, and Aubrie Harper all singled. Kobie was then hit by a pitch for one run. Ryan Wallace then hit a pinch hit inside the park grand slam to give Tiffin its final runs.

Lexi Key got the complete game victory, tossing 5 innings and allowing 8 hits and 3 runs.

In the opener, the Dragons got a run in the first inning but could score no more. Mengerink sinlged and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Miller's single, Mengerink came home on a sacrifice fly.

After giving up a second-inning run, starter Ella Esterby settled down, going 7 innings and allowing just 4 hits. Both teams had chances in the later innings, but in the eighth, a walk and two errors led to two unearned runs scoring to give ODU the victory.

Esterby took the loss, with Key pitching one inning in relief.

Tiffin will now face Northwood at 12:30 pm on May 2 as it continues its pursuit of the tourney title.
