Tiffin University (27-9, 11-1 G-MAC) turned up the offense, smacking 29 hits in two games as the Dragons beat Kentucky Wesleyan 16-0 and 8-3.
Ella Esterby got the win in the opener, tossing 4 innings of shutout ball while allowing just 4 hits.Â
Tiffin scored runs in bunches including 8 in the fourth inning. They started the attack in the second inning.
Molly Koesters and
Kylee Kleiner singled and came around to score on
Lydia Kobie's single followed by a throwing error.
Reagan Mengerink singled to make it 3-0.Â
In the third, Koesters singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. After Kobie was hit by a pitch, Esterby doubled with an error in left field allowing two runs to score. A Mengerink double drove in another run, while
Jessica Miller singled for another RBI. After Miller advanced to third on a wild pitch, she came in to score on
Maci Head's groundout to third.
Tiffin piled it on in the fourth inning. With two outs and one on, Mengerink singled for an RBI. Miller then doubled for another RBI, with two more runs coming in on
Aubrie Harper's single. A
Ryan Wallace walk loaded the bases, with
Caylin Stevens singling for 2 RBI. Abel doubled for another RBI, while
Natalie Hammerschmidt drove in the final run with another single.
In game two, TU had to comeback from a 3-1 deficit. In the fifth with the bases loaded and no outs,
Tori Abel scored on a double play. After Harper walked, Koesters drove in a run with a single. A
Tori McPherson single drove in another run, and Kobie then singled for another RBI as Tiffin scored all four runs with two outs.
Tiffin got insurance runs in the 6th inning. Abel and Mengerink both reached on errors to start the inning. Head then ripped a triple for two runs. Harper then blasted a home run to right field to make it 8-3.
Lexi Key got the win in relief, tossing 4 innings of 2-hit ball with 6 strikeouts.
Isabella O'Brien started and went 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs.
