In a battle of conference unbeaten teams, Tiffin University women's lacrosse (7-4, 3-1 G-MAC) fell at home on Saturday afternoon to Ashland 21-3.
The Eagles got off to a very fast start in this one scoring 12 goals in the opening quarter and led 17-0 at halftime. Ashland scored their 10th goal with 4:35 left in the first quarter which forced the running clock.
Trailing 19-0, the Dragons scored back-to-back goals to get on the board. Caylin Kunze scored the first goal off an assist from Jessa Zaheri and the second goal was scored by Lillian Graham off an assist from Guinevere Salas. Graham had Tiffin's third goal and Ashley Spangler was credited with the assist.
After being outscored 17-0 in the first half, Ashland only outscored Tiffin 4-3 in the second half.
Sarah Hart got the start in goal and took the loss playing 5:35 minutes allowing six goals. Sadie Wermuth played 24:25 minutes and allowed 11 goals while making four saves. Paige Waldrup played all 30 minutes in the second half and allowed four goals.
Wermuth also led the team in ground balls with three while Graham led the team in caused turnovers with three. Katelyn Jarvis won four of the team's nine draw controls.
Ashland had the advantage in total shots (30-9) and narrowly won the ground ball battle 21-19. Tiffin turned it over 27 times compared to just 18 by the Eagles. TU won just 9 of the 26 draw controls.
