Tiffin University (40-11) opened up the G-MAC Tournament in strong fashion, defeating Malone 5-1.
The victory set a new single season wins mark in Division II for the Dragons, eclipsing the mark of 39 set in the 2011 season.
Tiffin struck first in the third inning. With one out,
Reagan Mengerink doubled and then came home on
Jessica Miller's triple.
Tori McPherson followed with a sacrifice fly for another run.
Maci Head smacked a double to center field and came home on
Baylee Mirgon's double to make it 3-0.
Tiffin tacked on another run in the fourth.
Molly Koesters doubled and came home on
Lydia Kobie's double as TU took a 4-0 lead.
Tiffin faced its toughest challenge in the sixth inning when Malone loaded the bases with no one out trailing 4-1.
Lexi Key relieved
Isabella O'Brien in the circle and proceeded to get a double play and a ground out to end the threat.
A fielding error in the bottom of the sixth gave Tiffin another run, and that was more than enough for TU's pitching. O'Brien got the win with five innings of work, improving to 11-0 on the season. She allowed just 4 hits and struck out 4. Key got the save, pitching the final two innings and allowing one hit.
Tiffin had 12 hits overall while the pitching staff allowed no extra base hits on the day.
Tiffin will now face Ohio Dominican at 10 am on May 1.
