Tiffin University (36-10, 18-2 G-MAC) came back to win in walkoff fashion and then exploded in game two as the Dragons swept Cedarville 4-3 and 17-0.
Tiffin opened scoring in game one with a solo home run to center field by
Baylee Mirgon in the first inning.Â
Cedarville chipped away and went ahead 3-1 in the fifth inning. Tiffin had scoring chances throughout the game but could not get runs across as it headed to the bottom of the seventh.
Reagan Mengerink led off with a single. Pinch runner
Ryan Wallace moved to second on a groundout, Mirgon then followed with an RBI double that made it 3-2. A pop up to centerfield by
Maci Head was dropped to give TU runners at first and third.
Aubrie Harper then doubled to drive in both runners and win in walkoff fashion.
Ella Esterby got the win, allowing 2 earned runs over 7 innings with 5 strikeouts.
The win energized the Dragons, who ripped 17 hits for 17 runs over 5 innings. Tiffin, which hit .465 in the two games, went 17 for 28 from the plate in game two.
Maci Head drove in 6 runs with two hits including a grand slam, while
Jessica Miller had 4 RBI. Mengerink and
Tori Abel also had 3 hits each.
Lexi Key got the win, allowing 4 hits over 4 innings while fanning 6.
Jasmin Speth also pitched a scoreless fifth inning.
Tiffin scored in every inning. In the first, Mengerink and Miller singled.
Tori McPherson then singled both runners home to make it 2-0, Tiffin.
The Dragons added five more runs in the second.
Lydia Kobie, Abel, and Mengerink opened the inning with singles, with two runs scoring on Miller's single. After Mirgon walked to load the bases, Head singled for two more runs. A Harper sacrifice fly made the score 7-0.
TU ran away with the game with 9 runs in the third inning. Abel singled and was followed by walks to Mengerink and Miller. Mirgon singled for one run, and Head followed with a massive grand slam. Singles by
Tori McPherson and
Molly Koesters put Abel in an RBI position, and she delivered with another single. Mengerink singled for another un and Miller finished the scoring with a 2-RBI double.
In the fourth with two outs,
Kylee Kleiner singled and came home on
Ryan Wallace's double.
