Tiffin University (34-10, 16-2 G-MAC) had another strong day on the road, sweeping Walsh 12-3 and 7-1.
Ella Esterby got the win in game one, allowing just 5 hits over 7 innings while fanning 9.Â
Tiffin got 2 runs in the first inning. A
Reagan Mengerink walk, an error by the pitcher on
Jessica Miller's grounder, and an
Aubrie Harper single loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by
Baylee Mirgon got one run home, and
Maci Head singled for another run as TU led 2-0.
With the game tied 2-2 in the fifth, the floodgates opened for the TU offense. Harper and
Molly Koesters singled and Head walked to load the bases.
Kylee Kleiner doubled to center field to drive in all three runners as TU took a 5-2 lead.
In the sixth, with Mengerink and Miller on base, Harper doubled for an RBI. A walk to Koesters loaded the bases, and Mirgon's subsequent walk drove in another run. With two outs, Kleiner's ground ball to the shortstop was booted, allowing two more runs to score.
Tiffin tacked on three more runs in the seventh. After a Miller single and Harper double, Mirgon doubled for two runs and then came home on Head's single.
Kleiner totaled 5 RBI in the game while Mirgon had 4 RBI.
In game two,
Lexi Key went the distance, allowing 4 hits and one earned run with 12 whiffs in a dominating performance.
Nobody scored until TU erupted in the fourth. Mirgon was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Head followed with a double.
Tori McPherson then singled for one run, and Kleiner brought another run home with a sac fly. Mengerink then singled to give TU a 3-0 lead.
Tiffin got another run in the fifth. After a Mirgon triple, McPherson drove in the run with a double.
Tiffin finished with three more runs in the seventh. With Mirgon on via a walk, Head blasted a home run to left field. Singles by McPherson and Mengerink were followed by an RBI single from Miller to cap TU's scoring.
