Dragons sweep Warriors on Michigan trip

Tiffin University (32-10) put strong performances together on its road trip to Wayne State, sweeping the Warriors 7-1 and 10-4.

Ella Esterby brought her A game to the circle, tossing a one-hitter while fanning 6 over 7 innings.

Tiffin got two runs in the first inning. Reagan Mengerink led off with a double and Jessica Miller followed with a two-run home run to left field.

Tiffin added 5 more runs in the fifth inning. Lydia Kobie led off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. After Tori Abel singled, the Dragons executed a double steal with Abel stealing second and Kobie stealing home. Mengerink then singled Abel home. With pinchrunner Caylin Stevens on base along with Miller, Aubrie Harper singled to drive in a run. Molly Koesters then singled for the final run for the Dragons.

In game two, the Dragons banged out 15 hits and scored in all but two innings. Lexi Key got the win with the final 4 innings of work, allowing one earned run on 5 hits. Isabella O'Brien started and pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 earned runs.

Tiffin struck in the first inning once again in game two. After Mengerink walked, Miller tripled her home and then scored on a throwing error by the second baseman.

After Wayne State tied the game 2-2 after two innings, the Dragons responded with 3 runs. Miller singled and Koesters doubled to put two on. With two outs, Tori McPherson walked. Kobie then singled to drive in two runs, and Kylee Kleiner laced another single to make it 5-2, Tiffin.

Leading 5-3 in the fifth, Tiffin tacked on another run. Maci Head blasted a solo home run to make it 6-3.

Tiffin scored twice in the sixth. After Mengerink singled, Miller doubled to drive in a run. Koesters then singled for the second run.

Finally, in the seventh, Kobie singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Kleiner then tripled for a run and came home on a groundout.
