Dragons sweep Storm as McMenemy wins 100th game

Tiffin University (25-9, 9-1 G-MAC) continued its strong season, sweeping Lake Erie 7-0 and 11-3 as Head Coach Paige McMenemy won her 100th game for the Dragons.

In the opener, Ella Esterby tossed a two-hitter over 7 innings, fanning 11 while walking just one.

Tiffin scored in each of the first five innings. In the first, Jessica Miller singled and came home on Baylee Mirgon's double down the left field line.

In the second with two out, Kylee Kleiner walked and moved to second on Lydia Kobie's single. Another single by Reagan Mengerink drove in one run, and Miller followed with another RBI single to make it 3-0.

In the third, Maci Head and Aubrie Harper both walked. With two outs, Kleiner singled home one run and Kobie singled up the middle for another run.

Mirgon singled and stole second to lead off the fourth. Again with two outs, Tori McPherson singled up the middle for a run to make it 6-0.

Tiffin got its final run in the fifth. Kobie singled and stole second while Mengerink walked. After an error loaded the bases, Head hit a fly out to right center for a sacrifice fly.

Overall Tiffin had 11 hits with only one extra base hit as the Dragons came through with clutch singles in critical moments.

In game two, Lexi Key got the win, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts over 5 innings.

Tiffin got 7 of its runs in the first inning. After Miller reached on an error, Mirgon, Head, Harper, and McPherson all hit singles to drive in two runs. Molly Koesters then ripped a 2-RBI double down the right field line. Kleiner walked to load the bases, and Kobie followed with another walk for an RBI. Miller also walked for another run, as did Mirgon to finish off the scoring as TU knocked out the Storm pitcher in the opening frame.

In the third, Miller singled and moved to second on a wild pickoff attempt. Head then doubled to make it 8-0.

After the Storm made it 8-3 in the top of the fifth, Tiffin put the game away with three more runs. Mengerink led off with a walk. Miller then drove in the run with a triple. Mirgon's fielder's choice than brought MIller home. After stealing second, Mirgon moved to third on Head's sac fly, and then ended the game by coming home on Harper's sac fly.
