Tiffin University (12-8) finished its spring trip with a split, defeating Roosevelt in five innings 12-0 and falling to Florida Tech 7-6.
Against Roosevelt,
Ella Esterby pitched five innings and allowed just 3 hits with 7 strikeouts. She was backed by 13 TU hits that culminated in a 6-run fourth inning.
Tiffin opened scoring in the second inning. After two errors put Dragons baserunners on,
Tara Gall laced a two-run double to put TU ahead 2-0.
In the third,
Jessica Miller tripled and came home on
Aubrie Harper's single.
In the big fourth inning, Esterby tripled and came home on Gall's triple. After a
Tori McPherson walk, Gall came home on a fielder's choice. Following a passed ball, Miller singled home another run. An error let in another run and, after Miller stole third, Harper drove in another run with a groundout.
Maci Head then doubled for another RBI.
Tiffin got three more runs in the fifth.
Mackenzie Dietrick got a pinch hit single and was followed by Reagan Mengrink's single. Miller singled home one run, and two more runs scored on passed balls.
Miller was 3-for-4 in the game for 2 RBI while Gall was 2-for-2 for 3 RBI.
Against Florida Tech, the Dragons fell behind big early and tried to rally to comeback late, coming up just short.
Errors hurt the Dragons early, as only two runs in the game were earned for Florida Tech.
Lexi Key started but left down 3-0, and the Dragons trailed 7-0 heading to the fourth inning.
In the fourth, the Dragons got three runs back. Mengerink singled and Miller doubled. Both runners came home on
Molly Koesters's double. Harper then tripled to drive in another run.
Tiffin rallied in the seventh in one final shot. McPherson and Gall singled, while a Kaylee Kleiner single loaded the bases. A wild pitch let one run in, and a sacrifice fly got in another run. Miller followed with a double to bring the Dragons to within one run. With two on and just one out, the Dragons could not come through, as the game ended after a flyout to right field and a lineout to shortstop.
Isabella O'Brien finished the game for the Dragons, tossing 4 innings of relief and allowing just one earned run.
