Dragons split in Florida

Tiffin University (11-7) picked up a solid 8-3 win over Grand Valley State before falling in a narrow pitcher's duel 1-0 against Lynn.

The Dragons turned on the power against the Lakers, blasting three home runs. The game started poorly for the Dragons as they fell behind 3-0 after the first inning. Isabella O'Brien left after 0.1 innings after walking 3 and allowing 2 earned runs. Ella Esterby entered and was brilliant, going 6.2 innings and allowing just 2 hits with 8 strikeouts for the win.

Tiffin started its comeback in the second inning. After Molly Koesters singled, Maci Head blasted a two-run shot to make it 3-2.

In the third, Reagan Mengerink singled and Jessica Miller reached on an error. With two outs, Koesters laced a double to put TU ahead 4-3.

Tiffin widened its lead in the fourth. Baylee Mirgon led off with a solo shot. Esterby reached on an error and Ryan Wallace then singled. Mengerink then doubled for two more runs.

Tiffin got its final run in the fifth on a Koesters' solo shot.

In the nightcap, Lexi Key took the tough loss on the mound, going 8 innings and allowing just 2 hits and no earned runs with 9 strikeouts.

The Dragons also managed just two hits offensively with Koesters and Aubrie Harper getting singles.

Tiffin had scoring chances throughout the game. They had runners at second and third in the first inning and the bases loaded in the second but could not plate a run.

The Dragons had their last opportunity in the bottom of the eighth. With runners on first and third and one out, a runner was caught stealing and a groundout to third base ended the game.
