Dragons fall to Rollins 3-1 in pitching duel

Tiffin University baseball (7-5) suffered its second straight defeat Thursday night, dropping a tight 3-1 decision to Rollins College.

The game remained scoreless through the first four innings and the Dragons broke the tie in the fifth as Michael Patellis scored on an RBI single by Griff Cady. However, that was the only run they could manage in the game and any other scoring threat in the inning ended as Adam Deitschel grounded into an inning ending double play.

Rollins answered in the bottom of the fifth as Tiffin was unable to get a shutdown inning. The Tars used an RBI double, sac bunt, and sacrifice fly to take a 2-1 lead. Both runs were charged to Keegan Phillips.

Tiffin's struggles with runners in scoring position continued in the sixth as Ty Hatfield led off the inning with a single and Andrew Fairbrother followed with a walk, but they were stranded at second and third. With no outs, Hilario DeLaPaz, Aidan Grabowski, and Luke Westerman were retired in order to end the inning.

Rollins tacked on another run in the sixth to extend their lead to 3-1.

Cady reached on a walk in the seventh, and that would be the final base runner to reach for the Dragons in the game.

Scotty Adelman got the start and pitched 2.0 scoreless innings with one strikeout. Nick Feasel pitched 1.0 scoreless inning and allowed two hits. Phillips (0-1) took the loss, pitching 2.0 innings and allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Austin Guerra, Andrew Baileys, and Trent Hedges each pitched 1.0 innings.

Cady, Deitschel, Hatfield, DeLaPaz, and Patellis had one hit each.
