Tiffin University (10-6) fell in a pair of close games on the Florida trip, losing to Saginaw Valley State 2-0 before falling to Barry 6-2.
In the opener, Tiffin only allowed single runs in the fourth and sixth inning but could not plate any runs of its own. Overall Tiffin managed just 4 hits with
Aubrie Harper getting the only extra base hit with a double.
Lexi Key took the tough loss, pitching 5 innings and allowing one earned run on 4 hits.
Isabella O'Brien tossed the final two innings, allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs.
Tiffin had a great chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the seventh. Harper doubled and
Molly Koesters singled to put runners on first and third with no outs. Tiffin could not come through, however, as a flyout, a lineout, and a fielder's choice grounder ended the game.
In the nightcap, Tiffin came back to tie the game early but gave up four runs late and could not recover.
Trailing 2-0 in the second,
Baylee Mirgon reached on an error at first base. She moved to second on
Tara Gall's single and then advanced to third on a fielder's choice. A throwing error by the catcher allowed Mirgon to score as TU closed the gap to 2-1.
In the third, with
Reagan Mengerink on third base and two outs, Koesters singled her home to tie the game 2-2.
Barry scored two runs in the fifth inning off of starter
Ella Esterby and then tacked on two more runs in the sixth.Â
Esterby took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts. O'Brien also pitched an inning, allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits.
Tiffin totaled 6 hits in the game, all singles.
