Tiffin University baseball (7-4) suffered their second loss of the week Wednesday night, falling 15-0 to Eckerd College on the campus of the Tritons in St. Petersburg.
Eckerd jumped on TU starter Patrick Dinnen, plating nine in the first inning. A leadoff walk started a rally that led to a grand slam to give the home team a 4-0 lead. Dinnen appeared to settle in and got back-to-back flyouts but a two-out single and hit batter prompted another big rally in the opening inning.
Adam Deitschel and Ty Hatfield recorded back-to-back hits in the first inning and Hatfield's double put Dragons on second and third with one but they were both stranded as Andrew Fairbrother and Griff Cady were retired to end the inning.
Eckerd added two runs in the second, one in the fourth, and three in the sixth which put the run rule in effect, ending the game in seven innings.
The Dragons only recorded five hits in the game, having two in the opening inning and two more hits in the seventh inning.
Deitschel, Hatfield, Cady, Hilario DeLaPaz, and Chavis Conceicao had one hit each for the Dragons.
Dinnen (1-1) took the loss, pitching 0.2 innings. He allowed nine runs on six hits and walked one. Mason Brunecz pitched 1.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout. Steven Sexton pitched the final 4.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits while striking out four and did not walk a batter.
