Dragons post sweep of Lakers

Tiffin University (16-8) combined strong pitching with timely hitting, sweeping Grand Valley State with a pair of 5-0 victories.

In the opener, Lexi Key started and went 4 innings for the win, allowing just 2 hits while fanning 4. Ella Esterby finished the final 3 innings for the save, allowing 3 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Tiffin got its runs in the first and the fifth innings. In the first, Reagan Mengerink singled and Baylee Mirgon walked. Molly Koesters then followed with a double for an RBI and, with two outs, Aubrie Harper singled home another run as TU took a 2-0 lead.

In the fifth, Mirgon reached second on an outfield error and then came home on Maci Head's single. With two outs, Tori McPherson blasted a two-run home run to left field to finish TU's scoring.

Tiffin totaled 9 hits with Jessica Miller and Koesters also getting doubles.

Ini the nightcap, Isabella O'Brien got the win with 7 innings of 4-hit ball with 6 strikeouts.

Tiffin again scored its runs in bunches with two in the first and three in the sixth.

In the first, Mengerink walked, Miller singled, and Mirgon walked to load the bases. With two outs, Head singled to make it 2-0, Dragons.

In the sixth, TU continued its power trip. Mirgon walked and came home on Harper's triple. Head then smashed a home run to make it 5-0.

Head had a big game, driving in 4 runs with 2 hits.
