Tiffin University (8-2) started its spring trip off in solid fashion, defeating California (Pa.) 2-0 and Sioux Falls 6-4.
In the opener, Isabelle O'Brien tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, fanning six in the shutout.
The Dragons got all of their runs in the first inning. With two outs and
Jessica Miller on first after a walk,
Aubrie Harper singled and moved to second on an error.
Molly Koesters then singled both runners home to give TU the 2-0 lead.
Tiffin had 8 hits total, with
Ryan Wallace getting a double.
Against Sioux Falls, the game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Dragons scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning to get the win.
Trailing 1-0 in the third inning and with runners on first and third,
Reagan Mengerink doubled down the line to drive in two runs.
Tiffin added two more runs in the fourth. With two runners on and two outs,
Baylee Mirgon ripped a triple to left center, plating both runs and making the score 4-1, TU.
Sioux Falls responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game 4-4.Â
The Dragons took the lead for good in the seventh. Miller singled and was followed by
Maci Head getting hit by a pitch. Harper then doubled to drive in one run, and
Tori McPherson followed with a single to put TU ahead 6-4.
With two on and one out in the bottom of the seventh, TU reliever
Ella Esterby pitched out of the jam, getting two ground outs to end the game. Esterby got the win with 3 innings of relief, allowing no runs and 3 hits.
Lexi Key started the game and went 4 innings, allowing 3 earned runs.
