Tiffin University (8-15, 3-11 G-MAC) played a strong fourth quarter to pull out a narrow victory on the road 56-52 over Thomas More.
A close first half ended with the Saints holding a slim 29-24 lead. Neither team shot well during the third quarter, with the Dragons outscoring Thomas More 13-9 to put the score at 38-37, Thomas More.
The Dragons got hot at the right time, shooting 50 percent in the period. They went on a 12-6 run to open the quarter and pull ahead 49-44 with 3:16 to play.
The Saints responded with a 5-point run over the next 1:16 to tie the game at 49-49 with 2:09 to play.Â
Tiffin responded on a 7-3 run to close out the game, with
Megan Campbell and
Ellie Gabel scoring big buckets down the stretch. Gabel also hit clutch free throws with 18 seconds left to push Tiffin's lead to three points.
A three-point shot by the Saints was missed with 7 seconds left.
Tiffin held a 13-7 advantage at the free throw line. They also held the Saints to just 26 percent field goal shooting. The Dragons also outscored the Saints in the paint 34-22 despite getting outrebounded 49-44.Â
Campbell also had another big game, posting a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Tomi Hinkle had 12 points off the bench while
Grace Craig also had 10 points with 9 rebounds.
Lyv Lindeman finished with 8 points.
