Tiffin University men's basketball (5-17, 3-11 G-MAC) fell behind by double digits and cut a 13-point deficit to four with under a minute left, but Thomas More held on to defeat the Dragons Saturday afternoon 62-57.
John Muhammad started the game with a layup and that would be Tiffin's only lead of the first half. With the game tied at four, the Saints scored on four straight possessions and led 15-4 following an 11-0 run.
Dekyre Fuller and DJ Gooden fueled a 6-0 run as Tiffin trailed by two with 1:01 left in the first half, but the Saints converted a layup at the buzzer to take a 32-28 lead into halftime.
Tiffin started the second half strong and Caleb Bates converted an and-one to give the Dragons a 35-34 lead that capped a 7-0 run. After a couple back-to-back empty possessions by both teams, Thomas More hit a three-pointer to take the lead back and led the rest of the game.
That three by the Saints started a 10-0 run and Thomas More led 45-35 with 11:15 remaining. The Saints led 52-39 with 7:29 left in the game.
The Dragons, once again, fought till the very end and cut the lead to four with 4:47 remaining following a layup by Gooden, but Tiffin was unable to cut into the deficit anymore.
Allen Fordham and Gooden both scored 10 points to lead the way. Caleb Bates finished with nine points and six rebounds. Fuller and Jacob Pleiman each had eight points.
