Tiffin University (7-15, 2-11 G-MAC) fought hard and rallied late but came up just short at Kentucky Wesleyan, losing 85-80.
Both teams shot well to open the game. Tiffin shot 58 percent in the first half but the Panthers answered with a 65 percent mark as the two teams entered halftime with TU trailing just 48-46.
Tiffin struggled in the third quarter, however, making just one field goal and shooting 16 percent as the Panthers raced out to a 24-13 edge in the period.Â
KWC pushed its lead to as much as 15 points early in the final period. With 4:37 to play, the Panthers held a 13-point lead as Tiffin started a late rally.
The Dragons mounted a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 83-80 after
Megan Campbell's three-point shot with 14 seconds left.
A quick foul by the Dragons put KWC at the free throw line. Two foul shots with 12 seconds left was too much for the Dragons to overcome as they fell by five points.
Overall KWC outshot TU 52 percent to 50 percent from the floor with the Panthers hitting 10 triples to Tiffin's 8. While the Panthers outrebounded TU 35-24, the Dragons led in paint scoring 40-36 while also holding a 13-9 edge in points off turnovers. Tiffin had just 11 turnovers while forcing 15 KWC miscues.
Campbell had a big night for TU, finishing with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while
Lyv Lindeman had 17 points with 5 rebounds.
Bree Allen and
Tomi Hinkle both had 12 points.
