Tiffin University (6-2) unleashed the offense in a twinbill sweep of Quincy, ending both games early 19-7 in game one and 10-1 in game two.
In the opener, TU put up a 10-spot in the third inning and totaled 18 runs over the final three innnings.Â
After a
Maci Head home run gave TU a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Dragons blew it wide open in the third.
Reagan Mengerink came home on
Jessica Miller's triple to get it started. Head drove her home with a single. After moving to third on
Aubrie Harper's single, an error at catcher allowed another run to score. With the bases loaded after
Molly Koesters' single,
Tara Gall singled in another run. Following a
Ryan Wallace walk, Mengerink lashed a triple to clear the bases, and Miller then followed with a huge home run to put TU ahead 11-4.
In the fourth, Harper singled,
Baylee Mirgon reached on an error, and Koesters walked to load the bases. Gall walked in a run, and another run scored when Wallace was hit by a pitch. Mengerink then singled to clear the bases yet again.
TU finished scoring with three more runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, an error let one run in, and a wild pitch allowed two more to cross the plate.
Overall TU had 11 hits and 5 walks, with Mengerink getting 6 RBIs. Harper led the team with 3 hits while four players had more than 2 RBIs apiece.
Lexi Key got the win in relief, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs.
In the nightcap, the Dragons again scored late, tallying 7 runs over the final two innings to win the game in walkoff fashion.
Tiffin scored in all but one inning. After a Mengerink double, Harper singled her home in the first inning to give TU a 1-0 lead.
In the third, Mengerink scored from third on a passed ball, while
Tori Abel stole second and came home on Mengerink's double in the fourth inning to make it 3-0, Dragons.
In the fifth, Head walked and came home on Harper's triple. Mirgon singled Harper home and then stole second. Koesters drilled a double for another run, and a sacrifice by Wallace got another run home in the four-run inning.
In the bottom of the sixth leading 7-1, Miller singled and Harper walked. With two outs, Koesters jacked a three-run bomb to end the game in dramatic fashion.
Tiffin had 10 more hits in game two with Harper again going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Koesters had 4 RBIs in the game.
Isabella O'Brien got the win, tossing 5 innings and allowing no earned runs with 8 strikeouts and just 4 hits.
