Tiffin University (4-2) won an extra inning thriller 7-6 to salvage a split with Ferris State in a twinbill played in Chicago, Illinois.
The Dragons opened scoring in the nightcap with three runs in the second inning. After
Tara Gall and
Lydia Kobie singled, the Dragons rallied with two outs. An error at first base let in one run, and
Reagan Mengerink singled home two more runs to give TU a quick 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs responded with three runs in the fourth inning. TU came back in the 7th inning. With Mengerink on second,
Aubrie Harper singled home a run for TU in the top of the 7th to give TU a chance to end it in regulation. An unearned run in the bottom of the frame sent the game to extra innings.
In the 9th, with runners on first and third,
Molly Koesters singled home two runs and was followed by a Harper single as TU jumped ahead 7-4.
The Bulldogs tried to rally in the bottom of the 9th, scoring two runs, but with the tying run on second base, a popup to second base ended the game.
Isabella O'Brien got the win in relief, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing just one earned run on 4 hits.
Ella Esterby started the game, going 4.1 innings and also allowing one earned run with 5 strikeouts.
Mengerink and
Ryan Wallace had doubles for the Dragons.
In the opener, Tiffin fell 5-1.
Lexi Key took the loss, pitching 4 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. O'Brien finished the final 3 innings.
Tiffin scored its lone run in the opening inning.
Maci Head scored after walking on an RBI single by Harper.
Overall Tiffin managed just 5 hits with Gall getting the lone extra base hit with a double.
