Tiffin University men's basketball (6-18, 4-12 G-MAC) had four finish in double figures but dropped a narrow 75-69 decision at Ashland Saturday afternoon.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half that saw Ashland take a 29-26 lead into halftime. Tiffin led for only 57 seconds in the game which came in the first half following a three-pointer by Allen Fordham midway through the half. Every time the Dragons got to within one point or two, the Eagles answered on their next possession. Caleb Bates hit a three at the buzzer to give the Dragons some brief momentum at the end of the half.
In the second half, a 15-point deficit with 8:25 remaining was too much to overcome. Like the Dragons have done all year, they played to the end and cut into the deficit but the closest they got was six which came with 43 seconds left. The Eagles converted six of seven free throws in the final minute.
Both teams ended up shooting 45 percent from the floor.
Caleb Bates led the team in scoring with 17 points and grabbed four points. Dekyre Fuller just missed a double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. DJ Gooden had 13 points and Allen Fordham scored 11.
