The Tiffin University men's basketball team (3-2) closed out the month of November with an 84-77 home win over Point Park Sunday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle that saw both teams leading for over eight minutes. Overall, the half featured nine lead changes and four ties.
At the 9:33 mark, a three by Jacob Pleiman gave the Dragons the lead back, 19-17, and snapped a 1:39 scoring drought. The three-pointer ignited an 8-0 run as Tiffin took a 25-17 lead. Noah Smith contributed two free throws and a jumper while Michael Lucarotti added a layup during the stretch. Point Park responded with a 10-0 run to lead 27-25 with 5:03 remaining, but it was the Dragons who finished strong and took a 37-32 lead into the break.
Point Park came out strong to start the second half, and a 7-2 run tied the game at 39 at the 17:41 mark. A layup by Demar Burton gave TU the lead back, 41-39, which fueled a 6-0 run to make it 45-39 at the 15:58 mark, and the Dragons never trailed again. The Dragons continued to keep the Pioneers at bay and two free throws by D'monyae Davis made it 65-55 with 6:52 left.
The Pioneers got within six a few times down the stretch, but the Dragons had a response every time Point Park attempted to make a comeback. Tiffin sealed the win at the free throw line, making 9 of 10 in the final 1:09.
The Dragons continued their strong play inside the paint, scoring 40 in today's game. Jonah Nesmith led the way with 17 points and also had six rebounds and four blocks. Joining Nesmith in double figures were Burton (16), TJ Pangonas (13), Smith (13), and Lucarotti (11).
Burton grabbed a team high eight rebounds while Tavin Shaw recorded a team high three assists.
