The Tiffin University men's basketball team (2-2) scored 72 points in the paint en route to a 101-52 dominant victory against Union Commonwealth (Ky.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
The Dragons never trailed in the game and slowly built their lead throughout. TU took a quick 5-0 lead as D'monyae Davis opened the game with a layup followed by a TJ Pangonas three-pointer. Union kept it close and trailed by four, 17-13, with 12:25 remaining after a three by Rashaad Faulkner.
Tiffin scored the next nine to double up the Bulldogs 26-13 and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. Tiffin closed the half on an 8-0 run and led 51-24 at the half as Jonah Nesmith slammed home an emphatic dunk.
Tiffin ballooned their lead to 40, 70-30, following three straight layups by Marquel Newsome, Ethan Damerum, and Jacob Pleiman. The Dragons' biggest lead of 54 came at the 2:42 mark as Caleb Jewell knocked down a three.
14 Tiffin players saw playing time and all 14 scored at least one bucket. Leading the way with 17 was Pleiman followed by Nesmith with 14 and Pangonas with 10. Damerum grabbed a team high seven rebounds while Noah Smith and Damerum each had four assists.
The Dragons shot 56.4 percent in the game (44 of 78) while holding the Bulldogs to 33.9 percent (20 of 59). Tiffin also won the rebounding battle 49-30 and turned 19 Union turnovers into 26 points.
