The Tiffin University men's basketball team (1-2) was unable to close out the game in regulation and dropped an overtime battle at Davenport 66-59 Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons were in control of the game with under 10 minutes left. Buckets by Jacob Pleiman and KJ Pruitt and a free throw by D'monyae Davis gave Tiffin a 44-36 lead with 9:28 remaining until the Panthers flipped the script with an 11-0 run to lead 47-44 with 7:10 left.
Two free throws by Jonah Nesmith gave Tiffin a 55-52 lead with 23 seconds remaining and Davenport tied it with a three-pointer with six seconds left. With a chance to end the game in regulation, Tiffin did not get a shot off before time expired.
The Dragons' last made field goal came at the 4:24 mark in the second half. Combine that with zero field goals in overtime, Tiffin was held without a made field goal for the final 9:24 of the contest.
Although Davenport made only one field goal in overtime, the Panthers were a perfect 8 for 8 at the free throw line.
Trailing by one, the Dragons committed three turnovers in the final 45 seconds and the Panthers put the game away at the foul line. Tiffin left 10 points at the foul line, converting just 21 of 31.
The game featured 16 lead changes and eight ties.
Pleiman led the way offensively with 18 points while Nesmith and TJ Pangonas finished with 11 and 10, respectively. Pleiman and Michael Lucarotti both grabbed nine rebounds.
