The Tiffin University volleyball team (7-12, 2-8 G-MAC) suffered a 3-0 loss (16-25, 23-25, 17-25) Friday night at Walsh's Alumni Arena.
The evening started with a kill by Parker Vackert, and that would be the Dragons' only lead of the opening set. A kill from Maddie Daniel made it 3-3 and Walsh followed with five straight and seven of the next ten to take a 10-6 lead. Trailing 19-11, four straight TU points cut made it 19-15 after kills from Kaylee Freund and Olivia Karhoff. The Cavaliers finished strong, winning six of the final seven points to take the set.
The Dragons shook off an early 9-3 deficit in the second set and trailing 16-11, Tiffin went on a big nine-point run to turn the five-point deficit into a 20-16 lead. Five Walsh attack errors, three kills by Daniel, and an ace by Vackert accounted for the nine points. Despite the advantage and being three points away from tying the match at one set apiece, the Dragons once again failed to close out a set and finish strong. Walsh won five in a row to make it 24-22 and after a block by Karhoff to make it 24-23, the Cavaliers closed it out with a kill.
The momentum shifted back to Walsh in the third set and just like the first set, the Dragons won the opening point on a kill, this time by Katelyn Owens, and trailed the rest of the way. Walsh continued to build the lead by a wide margin, leading by seven, then eight, and then nine to make it 20-11 Cavaliers. Tiffin cut the deficit to six two times late in the set but could not get any closer.
Owens led the way offensively with eight kills and Karhoff, Vackert, and Daniel each had seven. Maggie Pavlansky had 28 assists and Morgan Morley and Karhoff finished with 17 and 11 digs, respectively.
The Dragons finished with a hitting percentage of .157 while the Cavaliers ended with a .246 mark.
