Dragons defeated by 21st-ranked Oilers

The Tiffin University volleyball team (2-8, 0-4 G-MAC) lost in straight sets (20-25, 22-25, 21-25) Friday night to 21st-ranked Findlay.

With the loss, the Dragons dropped both matchups to their rivals this season after also losing in straight sets exactly two weeks ago.

The match started with the teams trading mini runs and a kill from Maddie Daniel gave TU a 3-2 lead. The Oilers won the next three points to regain the lead and they led the remainder of the set. Another kill by Daniel and an ace by Lexi Barber cut the deficit to 14-12 but the Dragons could not get any closer and Findlay closed out the set winning three of the final four points.

The Dragons maintained a slim lead in the second set and a kill by Katelyn Owens made it 10-8 Dragons before the Oilers took the lead 13-11 by winning five of six points. TU answered and also won five of six following a kill by Kaylee Freund to make it 16-14. Tiffin could not maintain momentum though as the Oilers responded and won six of the final nine points to claim the set after two attack errors by the Dragons.

The Dragons got off to a strong start in the third set and led 10-8 following a kill by Owens. The Oilers again went on another run, winning four in a row and five of seven to lead 13-12. The Dragons cut the deficit to one five times but couldn't tie or regain the lead. After a kill from Karhoff made it 19-18, the Oilers again finished strong winning six of the final nine points.

Freund led the way offensively with nine kills while Maggie Pavlansky dished out 23 assists. Morgan Morley was the top defender with 15 digs.
