Tiffin University (7-11, 2-8 G-MAC) stormed back after a slow start and then held on at the end for a rollercoaster 76-71 win over Walsh.
The Dragons hit just five field goals in the opening quarter while Walsh shot 50 percent and jumped ahead to a 24-11 lead.
Walsh pushed its lead to 15 points early in the second quarter but the Dragons quickly responded, shooting a blistering 60 percent over the rest of the half to outscore the Cavaliers 24-13 and enter the halftime lockerroom down 37-35.
The break did not cool off the Dragons, who shot 50 percent from the floor and 9 of 11 from the line in the third quarter while holding Walsh to just 33 percent from the floor. TU won the third quarter 20-8 and eventually pushed its lead to 15 points with 2:06 left in the game.
Late turnovers opened the door for Walsh in the closing 90 seconds. The Cavaliers mounted a furious 14-2 run that cut Tiffin's lead to 74-71 with 21 seconds left. Two big free throws by
Bree Allen sealed the victory.
Overall Tiffin shot 54 percent including 20 of 27 from the line. Tiffin took advantage of Walsh's 21 turnovers, scoring 31 points. Despite getting outrebounded 34-23 by the Cavaliers, the Dragons outscored Walsh in the paint 42-30.Â
Lyv Lindeman had a strong game, totaling 21 points on 6 of 7 shooting and 9 of 14 free throw shooting along with 4 rebounds.
Bree Allen was also strong off the bench, scoring 19 points with 5 rebounds.
Grace Craig also had 10 points and 6 rebounds.
