Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dragons pull away from Northwood in second half to earn road win

The Tiffin University men's basketball team (4-11, 2-5 G-MAC) took a one-point lead into halftime and pulled away from Northwood in the second half to earn an 85-77 win in Michigan Thursday evening. The win for the Dragons was their second straight and tonight's road win was their first of the season.

The first half as the score indicated was very close with both teams shooting the ball well. The opening half featured five ties and nine lead changes that actually saw the Timberwolves holding the lead for the majority, and the final 10 minutes of the opening period featured four lead changes and three ties.

A 7-0 run fueled by DJ Gooden and Dekyre Fuller turned a four-point deficit into a three-point lead. Three-pointers by Jacob Pleiman and D'monyae Davis were enough to give the Dragons the slim lead going into the break and there was only a total of two points scored in the final 1:35 of the first half and that was a layup by the Timberwolves.

The Dragons trailed for just 20 seconds in the first half and that came right as the half started. Northwood scored the first bucket to open the second period and the Dragons went on a 6-0 run by Fuller and John Muhammad to take a 45-40 lead with 18:01 remaining. Tiffin would be in firm control of the game from here on out.

A three-pointer by Allen Fordham capped an 8-0 run to give the Dragons a 64-52 lead, their biggest of the game, with 7:44 left in the game. Northwood was only able to cut the lead to five and couldn't get any closer.

Over the final 2:56, the Dragons made 10 out of 12 free throws to close it out.

10 players saw action tonight for Tiffin and each one scored at least one basket. Fordham and Fuller led the way in scoring with 21 and 20, respectively. Caleb Bates finished with 13 and KJ Pruitt had 10 points and five assists. Michael Lucarotti grabbed seven rebounds.

The Dragons return home on Saturday, January 18 as Findlay comes to the Gillmor Center. Tipoff is set for approximately 3pm against the ninth-ranked Oilers following the conclusion of the women's game which tips off at 1pm.
