Dragons concede early goal in loss to Malone to open conference play

The Tiffin University women's soccer team (0-4, 0-1 G-MAC) conceded an early goal on Thursday as the Dragons fell 1-0 to Malone in their first home game and conference game of the season.

The Pioneers scored the only goal of the game in the fifth minute when Alyssa Schofield found Brynn Mowrer who found the back of the net off her chest in the bottom right corner of the net. The ball didn't have a lot of pace on it but it had enough to where TU goalkeeper Malea Nelson was unable to get to it.

Despite facing the early deficit, the Dragons had numerous chances to get back into the game. TU spent 44% of the first half on the attack and had an 8-3 advantage in shots with three shots on goal to go along with three corners but were unable to push one through in the first half. Amanda Feury and Autumn Schweitzer recorded back-to-back shots on goal just nine seconds apart in the 10th minute but MU goalkeeper Amelia Henderhan denied both attempts. Suzy Hayes recorded a shot attempt off a corner kick that just narrowly missed hitting the post.

The Malone defense continued to step up throughout the game. With the Dragons possessing the ball over 60% of the game, they were not able to find the equalizer despite outshooting the Pioneers for the game 13-10 and having eight corner kicks compared to just one by MU. Tia Nagle had a great scoring opportunity, but the Malone goalkeeper made a diving stop to preserve the lead with eight minutes remaining.

Feury led the team in shots with three and shots on goal with three. Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made seven saves.

The Dragons will honor their seniors on senior day on Saturday, Sept. 21 when Thomas More visits the Paradiso Athletic Complex for a noon start.
