The Dragons (24-24) opened the Great Midwest Athletic Conference tournament with a thrilling come-from-behind victory to upset No. 2 seeded Northwood, 3-2.
Scotty Adelman delivered a quality start on the mound, tossing five shutout innings in which he allowed four hits and tallied four strikeouts. He was relieved by
Zach Johnson who picked up his fourth win of the year while
Francisco Olivarez pitched the final two innings to seal the victory and earn the save.
Logan Swonger got the Dragons on the board in the fourth inning with a solo home run, gifting Tiffin a 1-0 lead. Northwood later took the lead in the sixth on a pair of RBI-doubles, making it 2-1 Timberwolves.
In the top of inning number eight,
Cal Brazier singled to right field which scored
Jack Clancy to level the game up at two apiece. Swonger's sacrifice fly to right field in the very next at-bat regained the lead for Tiffin.
Ty Hatfield was the only Dragon with a multi-hit game, ending 2-for-3 while Swonger finished 1-for-2 with a team-high two RBI's.
The Dragons will now face off with Findlay tomorrow, May 9 at 10 a.m. at Prasco Park. The two rivals split the four-game regular season series, 2-2.
