The Dragons (21-22, 15-13 G-MAC) suffered an extra-innings defeat in game one 10-7 but bounced back hanging on to victory in game two, 6-4.
Tiffin got off to a red-hot start in game one, tallying four runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI single by
Tommy Thamann followed by a huge three-run home run from
Isaiah Mirabal. The Cavaliers cut the lead in half in the second inning, but TU later restored the four-run advantage in the fifth. Once again, Thamann and Mirabal came through with a pair of hits to bring runs home.
The Dragons found themselves an out away from the victory but allowed four runs in the top of the seventh, forcing the game into extra innings. Walsh picked up right where they left off, adding four more runs in the eighth to earn the victory.
Mirabal led the team in RBI's with five and ended 3-for-5 while Thamann and
Ty Hatfield both had multi-hit games as well.
It was a similar situation in game two as Tiffin took another early lead, plating two runs in the second and three more in the third to hold a 5-1 lead. Mirabal homered once again, this time a two-run shot in the second.
Andrew Fairbrother also delivered an RBI-triple in the third.
TU's lead was put in jeopardy in inning number six as Walsh tallied three runs, cutting the lead to just one before the Dragons worked their way out of the inning. After adding an insurance run in the bottom half,
Brandon Swope came in with the bases loaded to earn the last two outs and secure his first save of the season.
Nick Feasel had a quality start on the mound, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just three runs on five hits while fanning two. Fairbrother was a perfect 3-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a team-high two runs scored while Mirabal finished 2-for-3 with and led the team in RBI's with three.
The Dragons will now head to Ashland for their final conference series of the regular season, vying for a spot in the G-MAC Championship tournament. The series will begin on Thursday, May 2 at 2 p.m.
