The Dragons (20-21, 14-12 G-MAC) followed up a dominant 18-8 win in game one of their series with Walsh with another tight 6-4 victory to take both of Saturday's doubleheader.
Walsh got off to a hot start, playing four runs in the top of the first. TU responded with a pair in the bottom half on RBI hits from both
Andrew Fairbrother and
Tommy Thamann. The Cavaliers added two more runs in the third to extend their lead 6-2 before the Dragons rallied for five runs in the bottom half to earn their first lead of the game.
Tiffin continued to extend its lead with another nine-run inning in the sixth which included back-to-back home runs after a grand slam from Thamann was followed up by a solo shot from
Isaiah Mirabal. TU extended its lead to 17-7 en route to a dominant game one victory.
Thamann was red hot at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a team-high five RBI's and two runs. Fairbrother and finished 3-for-5 and was a triple shy of the cycle, adding two RBI's and two runs scored.
Mason Brunecz earned the win on the mound, tossing four innings while
Francisco Olivarez closed out the final three innings to earn the save.
Walsh took an early 3-0 lead in game two through the opening four innings before the Dragons scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-4 lead.
Ricky Havrilla and
Adam Deitschel both tallied a pair of hits and a run scored.
Scotty Adelman earned the win after tossing 5.1 innings while
Noah Kandel closed out the final inning for the save.
The series continues tomorrow with another doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Tiffin University's Paradiso Athletic Complex.
