Dragons comeback in pair of wins over Walsh

Tiffin University (22-20, 8-10 G-MAC) came back in both games against Walsh, beating the Cavaliers by identical 5-4 scores.

In game one, the Dragons tallied three runs in the second inning to jump ahead. Tara Gall doubled and advanced to third on a sacrifice. With two outs, Gall scored on an error on a grounder by Maya Miles. After Miles stole second, Maddie Woods singled Miles home and advanced to second on an error in left field. Reagan Mengerink then singled to drive her home.

After Walsh got a run in the fifth inning, the Dragons got a run back in the sixth. Aubrie Haper singled and Lydia Kobie then walked. Gall singled to load the bases. Pinch runner Bailey Hamilton scored on Ryan Wallace's groundout to make it 4-1.

The Dragons led 4-1 entering the seventh inning. but starter Claire Feldkamp could not close it out, as the Cavaliers scored three runs to tie it at 4-4. The Dragons ended it in the bottom of the seventh in walkoff fashion. Alyssa Gettys reached on an error at shortstop followed by a walk to Woods. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice, Baylee Mirgon singled to end the game.

Feldkamp got the win with 7 innings of work, She fanned 8 and allowed 4 earned runs with 3 walks.

In game two, the Dragons came back twice and won the game late. Trailing 1-0 in the first, Woods walked and Mengerink singled. After getting sacrificed to second and third, Woods scored on an error at shortstop.

TU got two runs in the fourth. With two outs, Lexi Key singled and Wallace moved her to third with another single. After Wallace then stole second, Woods then doubled to drive in both runners.

Walsh responded with three runs in the fifth inning as it took a 4-3 lead and end starter Key's day. 

TU rallied in the bottom of the sixth. Gall singled and Gettys reached on an error. A single by Wallace put the Dragons ahead 5-4 heading to the seventh inning.

Feldkamp, who entered the game to pitch in the sixth inning, needed three outs. After a leadoff single, Feldkamp got a brilliant double play turned on a diving play by second baseman Woods, who flipped the ball to Lydia Kobie to start the 4-6-3 double play. Walsh hit another double with two outs, but another groundout to Woods ended the game on a close play.

Feldkamp got her second win of the day with 2 innings of scoreless relief.
