The Dragons (16-19, 11-10 G-MAC) opened the series at Lake Erie with a pair of wins in Saturday's doubleheader, first holding on for a 16-12 victory in game one before taking game two as well, 9-4.
The bats were ringing in game one as Tiffin plated 16 runs in total. Five of which came in the third inning to put TU on the board as well as scoring at least two in four consecutive innings from the fifth through the eighth.
The Dragons held an 11-run advantage entering the bottom of the eighth at 16-5 but allowed two runs and five more in the bottom of the ninth before getting out of the pinch to seal the win.
Andrew Fairbrother and
Griff Cady both finished with three base hits, one of which was a double. Fairbrother led the team with four RBI's and two runs scored while Cady posted three RBI's and two runs scored as well.
Tiffin got going early in game two, leading the game off with a pair of runs in the top of the first thanks to a two-RBI single by
Cal Brazier. A four-run top of the second was highlighted by a three-run home run to center field by
Logan Swonger, his 12th of the year.
Lake Erie scored a run in inning number three to cut the Dragon lead to 6-4. However, TU added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by
Aidan Grabowski followed by yet another long bomb by Swonger, this time a two-run shot.
Johnathan Ray picked up his first save of the season, tossing four shutout innings without allowing a single hit and fanning seven of the 12 batters he faced.
The series with Lake Erie continues with another doubleheader tomorrow, April 14 beginning at 12 p.m.
