The Dragons (3-9) opened a four-game home and away series with Gannon on Friday afternoon, earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory before suffering a 2-1 defeat on a walk-off in game two.
Â
Tiffin's pitching depth was on full display as it utilized five pitchers in game one.
Ben Hubert earned the start and was followed by
Francisco Olivarez who recorded his first win of the season after pitching two innings without allowing a hit and tallying three strikeouts.
Zach Johnson followed with two more innings, striking out four of the 10 batters he faced.
Â
The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning on an RBI-triple by
Logan Swonger which scored
Adam Deitschel.
Andrew Fairbrother closed out the final inning, grabbing his second save of the season.
Â
Deitschel was the only Dragon to record multiple hits, as he finished 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Â
Noah Kandel pitched the opening four innings of game two, allowing one run on two hits with five punchouts. Gannon took the lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly to right field.
Â
The Dragons were able to tie up the game in the sixth thanks to
Isaiah Mirabal's RBI-single. However, Gannon walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI-single of its own to split the doubleheader.
Â
Tiffin finished with just three hits, two of which came off the bat of Mirabal with
Tommy Thamann getting the other.
Â
The series now heads to Tiffin with another doubleheader on Tuesday, March 12 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Paradiso Athletic Complex.
