The Dragons (5-9) continued their four-game series against Gannon with the first home doubleheader of the season, winning both, 6-5 and 9-1 to clinch the series 3-1.
Tiffin earned a narrow victory in game one after a back and forth game with the Golden Knights. Gannon got on the board early with two runs before the Dragons answered right back in the bottom half of the first on a two-RBI double by
Isaiah Mirabal.
Mirabal delivered again in the third inning with a single to bring home
Aidan Grabowski. TU tied the game up at five apiece with a pair of runs in the fourth inning, one of which came on an RBI-single by
Adam Deitschel.
Tommy Thamann later delivered the go-ahead run on a solo shot over the right field wall in the sixth inning.
Francisco Olivarez picked up his second win of the year, tossing two scoreless innings in which he allowed just one hit and fanned three.
Andrew Fairbrother came in to close out the final inning for the Dragons, recording his third save of the season and striking out two of the thre batters he faced.
Mirabal finished 2-for-3 with a double and a team-high three RBI's. Thamann ended 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI while Deitschel also posted multiple base knocks, going 2-for-3 with one run and an RBI.
The offense was even hotter in game two as Tiffin put 10 runs on the board with seven hits. The bullpen held Gannon to just one run on one hit as well.
TU picked up two runs in the first inning before the Golden Knights scored their only run of the game on a solo home run in the second.
Jack Clancy responded with a home run of his own a half inning later. The Dragons broke the game open with four runs in the fourth which included a three-run home run by
Logan Swonger, giving Tiffin an 8-1 lead.
Two more runs were tacked on before the end of the game as
Patrick Dinnen,
Mason Brunecz,
Mat Carden,
Hayden Bush, and
Trent Hedges combined to one-hit GU. The pitchers tallied nine strikeouts in total, three of which came through the freshman, Brunecz, who earned his first win of the season.
Tiffin now shifts its attention to conference play as it hosts Thomas More for the G-MAC opener on Saturday, March 16 beginning at 1 p.m.
