Tiffin University (18-14, 4-4 G-MAC) picked up a sweep at Thomas More, winning 9-1 and coming back in game two to win 11-9.
Tiffin benefited from a couple big innings in the opener, scoring 3 in the first and 5 in the third.
In the first inning,
Maddie Woods came around to score on an error in center field to start the game. After
Jules King walked, she stole second and reached third on an error on the catcher's throw.
Reagan Mengerink then doubled her home, and then scored herself when
Maci Head also smacked a double down the left field line.
Tiffin blew the game open in the third.
Molly Koesters doubled to center and moved to third on
Aubrie Harper's single.
Baylee Mirgon drove in a run with a single, and
Tara Gall was hit by a pitch to load the bases. An error at third let a run score and kept the bases loaded. Woods then singled up the middle for two runs, and the bases were loaded again when King laid down a bunt single. Mengerink then singled in another run to make it 8-0, Tiffin.
Tiffin tacked on another run in the fifth. Woods reached on an error and moved to second on the throw. With two outs, Mengerink drove in another run with a single.
King got the mound win with another strong outing, allowing just one hit over 5 innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
Mengerink led the way with 3 hits for 3 RBI.
In game two, Tiffin fell behind 6-0 after one inning as
Claire Feldkamp allowed 5 earned runs over two-thirds of an inning. Tiffin stormed back, however, tallying 10 runs over the next three innings to take a lead it would not give up.
In the second, with two outs, Mirgon and
Maya Miles put singles together.
Lydia Kobie doubled for two runs, and then came home on a single by Woods to make the score 6-3.
After the Saints added two more runs, the Dragons got two more runs when Mengerink singled and Koesters blasted a two-run shot to center field to make the score 8-5.
Tiffin took the lead with 5 runs in the fourth. Miles singled and moved to second on an error. Kobie was hit by a pitch, and Woods followed with an RBI double. Another run scored on a bunt single by King. After King stole second, Head singled to drive in two runs. Tiffin's final run came home on an error at second base as Tiffin took a 10-8 lead.
Tiffin got another run in the sixth. With two outs and King on third, Koesters hit another double to make it 11-8.
Lexi Key got the win in relief, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits. King then came in to record the save, tossing 3 innings and allowing only one hit and one earned run with 7 strikeouts.
TU totaled 13 hits in game two, with Woods, King, Mengerink, Koesters, and Miles all getting multiple hits. Koesters led the way with a double and home run for 3 RBI.
