The Dragons (9-13, 4-4 G-MAC) struggled on the mound as they allowed nine runs on 12 hits in a 9-3 defeat to close out the series with Hillsdale on the road.
Freshman
Mason Brunecz pitched well in his first career start, tossing a scoreless first two innings after allowing just three hits and striking out two. However, the bullpen struggled from that point on.
Tiffin drew first blood in the top half of the second inning on
Tommy Thamann's double to left-center field, scoring
Cal Brazier. The Chargers responded with a big third inning, plating five runs to take a 5-1 lead.
The Dragons cut the deficit to two in the fifth inning after scoring a pair on an RBI-groundout from
Andrew Fairbrother followed by a wild pitch which brought home
Aidan Grabowski. Hillsdale tallied two more in each of the next two innings to extend its lead once again.
Thamann posted a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk.
Connor Huzicka and
Logan Swonger both ended 1-for-3 while Huzicka added a run scored.
Tiffin now returns home for a doubleheader against rivals Findlay on Tuesday, March 26 beginning at 1 p.m.
