Dragons hold on for 11-10 win over Senators

Tiffin University (4-5, 1-2 G-MAC) maintained slim leads and held on for a tough 11-10 win at Davis & Elkins.

The Dragons dominated the first quarter, jumping out to a 4-0 lead on goals by Matthew Nunnaro, Aydan Gilbert, Sam Trujillo, and Brandon MacDonell. Overall the Dragons had a 14-5 shot advantage in the period.

Tiffin still held a four-goal lead at 6-2 when the Senators tallied three straight goals to make it 6-5 with 3:50 left in the second quarter. A goal by Isaac Wert put TU ahead 7-5 at halftime.

A defensive battle ensued after the break. After a Davis & Elkins' goal at the 13:03 mark, they didn't score again for nearly 7:00 before tying it 7-7. Kyle Geller scored with 4:38 left to put TU back ahead 8-7.

The Senators kept trading goals with Tiffin, tying it 8-8 and then 9-9 with 12:26 left in the game. A goal by Connor Gucwa put TU ahead 10-9 and MacDonell followed with a goal off a pass from Nunnaro with 8:17 left to go ahead 11-9. 

TU did not allow another goal until 3:58 remained, narrowing the score to 11-10. The Dragons did not allow another shot in the game over the final 3:58.

Overall TU outshot the Senators 40-24 while also forcing 21 turnovers and committing only 12. 

Gucwa led the Dragons with 3 goals and 3 assists. MacDonell and Trujillo had 2 goals each while Nunnaro also had a goal and assist. Geller, Gilbert, and Wert also had goals.

Mike Roman had 6 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers while Grant Pryor had 4 ground balls with 10 faceoffs won. Dominic Giacona also had 3 caused turnovers.
