Tiffin University (4-6, 1-3 G-MAC) could not keep it close after halftime, falling to Wheeling in a conference matchup 18-7.
Wheeling scored the only three goals of the first quarter but the Dragons came back strong in the second quarter to outscore the Cardinals 3-2. Trailing 4-0,
Aydan Gilbert and
Brandon MacDonell scored back-to-back goals to make 4-2.
After another quick Wheeling goal, MacDonell scored off a pass from
Matthew Nunnaro to make it 5-3 at the half.
Things changed dramatically in the third quarter, as the Cardinals ripped off six unanswered goals including three in a span of 70 seconds as they leaped ahead 11-3.
Isaac Wert scored an unassisted goal, and
Connor Gucwa scored off a pass from Gilbert to make it 11-5 but TU could only get two more goals the rest of the way.
Wheeling outshot Tiffin 48-34 while also holding a 36-29 edge. The Cardinals also forced 24 TU turnovers.
MacDonell finished with 3 goals and an assist to lead the Dragons while
Sam Trujillo, Wert, Gucwa, and Gilbert also scored.
Mike Roman had 8 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers while Wert and
Grant Pryor also had 2 caused turnovers.Â
