Tiffin University (14-12) got strong hitting in game one and strong pitching in game two as the Dragons swept Wayne State 8-3 and 2-1.
In the opener, TU drilled four home runs, scoring runs in all but two innings. They set the tone in the first inning, when
Jules King walked and
Reagan Mengerink singled.
Baylee Mirgon then drilled a two-out home run to put TU up 3-0.
Leading 3-1, TU got more runs in the third inning.
Maci Head blasted a solo shot to dead center field and, after Mirgon singled,
Aubrie Harper slammed another shot to right center.
Head smacked another home run in the fourth inning as TU pushed its lead to 7-1.Â
Tiffin's final run came in the sixth inning. KIng walked and Mengerink and Head followed with singles. An error on a liner by Mirgon in left field plated another run.
King got the win in the circle, tossing 7 innings of 5 hit ball and fanning 8 with just one walk.
Head had 3 hits with two home runs, while Mengerink, Mirgon, and Harper all had two hits each.
In the nightcap, Tiffin won a pitcher's duel, scoring two runs in the fifth inning.
Lexi Key started and went 4 innings. She allowed just one run on 5 hits, with
Claire Feldkamp tossing the final three innings to get the win. She allowed no hits or runs while fanning 2 and walking 3.
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, the Dragons started a two-out rally. King singled and Mengerink doubled to tie the score. Head then followed with another double to put TU ahead 2-1.
Wayne State had a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning but could get no further.
King and Mengerink both had two hits in the second game, with Mengerink and Head having doubles.
