The Dragons (12-7, 6-5 G-MAC) battled hard to force overtime against Thomas More on the road but ultimately fell just short in a 76-72 defeat.
Â
Despite scoring the first bucket of the game, TU trailed for most of the contest. The Dragons tied the game on six different occasions but were unable to take the lead until late in the second half when
Morgan Taylor hit a step back mid-range shot to take a 64-62 lead with 10 seconds remaining.
Â
On its next possession, Thomas More drew a foul on a three-point attempt and converted two of three, tying the game once again at 64-64. Tiffin's last-second effort was no good as it headed to overtime for the first time this season.
Â
The Dragons fell behind after a 6-1 run by the Saints in the opening two minutes. They were able to cut the deficit to just one point after back-to-back layups from Taylor and
Ian Lopez, but that is as close as they came as TMU saw out the victory.
Â
The scoring duo of Taylor and
Wesley Jordan carried the weight, combining for 51 of Tiffin's points. Taylor posted 26 points, five rebounds and four assists followed by Jordan with 25 points and five rebounds as well. Lopez added seven points and
Brandon Swaby finished with a team-high eight rebounds.
Â
Next up, the Dragons head to Cedarville for a matchup against the conference leaders on Monday, February 5 at 7 p.m.
