Tiffin University (0-5) came back to take a lead entering the final three innings but could not hold on as Wayne State posted a sweep of the Dragons with a 9-8 victory.
Tiffin fell behind in the third inning as it allowed 5 runs off starter
Zach Johnson. Johnson was knocked out after 2.1 innings as he allowed 5 earned runs on 6 hits.
Tiffin got three runs back in the top of the fourth.
Cal Brazier walked and
Ty Hatfield followed with a single.
Logan Swonger then connected on a three-run blast with two outs to make it 5-3, Warriors.
After Wayne State made it 6-3 in the bottom of the fourth, the Dragons exploded for 5 runs in the fifth.
Isaiah Mirabal led off the frame with a home run.
Griff Cady and
Aidan Grabowski followed with walks, with Cady scoring on Brazier's double to left center. After a Hatfield walk, Swonger had another clutch two-out hit, this time a three-run double to center to five TU an 8-6 lead.
In the seventh inning, the Warriros plated three runs (two unearned) to take the lead.
Mason Brunecz took the loss over his 1.1 innings of work.
The Dragons could not manage a baserunner over the final two innings.
Adam Deitschel and Swonger had two hits apiece for Tiffin, while Swonger had 6 RBI with his double and home run.
