The Dragons (1-6) opened a four-game series at Glenville State on Saturday, earning their first win of the season, 9-4, before suffering defeat in game two, 11-3.
The long-ball fueled the Dragons in their game one victory as
Cal Brazier took one for a ride over the left field wall for a three-run home run in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the first, Glenville State tallied two runs of its own to make it 3-2.
Tiffin added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run shot by
Isaiah Mirabal and four more in the fifth after
Logan Swonger brought home two runs with a single to right field followed by yet another two-RBI single by Mirabal.
TU earned its first win of the season behind the arm of
Noah Kandel who tossed 4.1 innings, allowing just two hits and tallying three strikeouts.
Francisco Olivarez finished the game in relief, allowing no runs on one hit with four punchouts.
Both Brazier and Mirabal went 2-for-4 with home runs while Mirabal led the team with four RBI's followed by Brazier with three. Swonger ended 1-for-2 with two RBI's with
Adam Deitschel leading the team in runs scored with two.
GSU struck first I game number two with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Connor Huzicka helped the Dragons pull one back with a solo home run to left field. However, the game started to get away from Tiffin as it allowed seven runs in the second inning, two of which were walked home.
The Dragons were unable to cut away at the deficit in the 11-3 defeat.
Huzicka finished 2-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored while
Ty Hatfield ended 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
The series continues with another doubleheader tomorrow, March 3 at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
